What is Podiatry?

There is no difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist.
In the UK podiatry is simply the new name for chiropody. The
name was changed to podiatry in 1993 as it's the international
recognised name for a foot specialist.

A foot specialist is someone who has undertaken a high level of
qualification (Podiatry BSc today) and is regisered with the hcpc council.

Podiatry is a constantly evolving profession, where a vast array of foot and lower limb problems are treated. Along with the most obvious treatments for corns and hard skin, specialties exist within the profession for almost any lower limb problem, these include:

  • Biomechanics
  • Podopaediatrics
  • Surgery
  • Orthotics
  • High risk patient management
  • Sports injuries
